Wikipedia does not have a preferred citation style. I am referring to a relatively tight definition of citation style: the data elements required according to the type of source, the syntax and sequence of those data elements, the punctuation and abbreviations used, and the text formatting.\n \nI have not read all the back history, but what I have read suggests that editors have proposed using a single citation style, but those proposals were not adopted. As it stands now, the editor that adds the first citation to an article establishes a citation style and subsequent editors are supposed to follow that style. In practice, it's difficult to maintain a high-degree of consistency within an article due to\n complications caused by the lack of a standard style,\n editors who are unfamiliar with citing sources or unfamiliar with Wikicode,\n an evolving infrastructure,\n and other factors.\n \nThe variety of citation style options means that editors who prefer a particular style can have their way. Unfortunately, the overall result is a big mess.\n Citations are inconsistent within and across articles,\n the guidelines are confusing,\n there are too many templates,\n the template documentation is confusing and wishy-washy,\n and the guidelines and templates require more effort to maintain than they should.\n \nCiting sources is fundamental to Wikipedia—"Encyclopedic content must be verifiable"— and the whole situation is an embarrassment.\n \nEstablishing a standard citation style will not cure all ills, but it's the best first step. Eliminating style options will simplify the guidelines and the other instructions related to citing sources, will reduce the number of templates required, will help improve in-article and across-article consistency, will reduce editing conflicts, will reduce the barriers for inexperienced editors, and in general, will reduce the time and effort devoted to non-productive work related to citing sources. The details of the citation style—punctuation, etc.—are relatively unimportant but it's critical that we reduce the clutter, improve the documentation, improve the tools, and minimize the barriers to presenting citations effectively so we can spend more time adding reliable sources and less time working around the problems caused by the lack of a standard.\n \nSerious, reputable, professional organizations that cite sources use a single established citation style. It's past time for Wikipedia to do the same.\n \nI propose that we establish a standard citation style. Given the prior difficulties reaching consensus, I further propose that we form a small committee to define the standard. The committee should be free of people with entrenched preferences and instead include contributors who will work collaboratively, who will compromise, and who will place the primary goal ahead of picky details\n\n[[Sorry i dozed off]]
Synchronicity is an explanatory principle, according to its creator, Carl Jung. Synchronicity explains "meaningful coincidences," such as a beetle flying into his room while a patient was describing a dream about a scarab. The scarab is an Egyptian symbol of rebirth, he noted. Therefore, the propitious moment of the flying beetle indicated that the transcendental meaning of both the scarab in the dream and the insect in the room was that the patient needed to be liberated from her [[excessive rationalism]]. His notion of synchronicity is that there is an acausal principle that links events having a similar meaning by their coincidence in time rather than sequentially. He claimed that there is a synchrony between the mind and the phenomenal world of perception.

Other notable psychiatrists and authors remain skeptical not only about the efficacy of anti-depressants or their overuse but also about the very principle of prescribing a mind-altering medications to treat [[something that cannot be objectively proven]] to be a biological disorder resulting from a chemical imbalance, yet is often presumed to be so.\n\nProfessor of Psychiatry Thomas Szasz argues mental illness is a social phenomenon rather than a biological disease entity.[132] Harvard-trained psychiatrist Peter Breggin[133] argues that "[anti-depressants] 'work' by causing mental disabilities such as apathy and euphoria that are misinterpreted as improvements"[134][135]\n\nCambridge-educated Bob Johnson, GP, Psychiatrist and author, argues that all psychiatric medications are emotionally damaging both due to the physical effects of the drugs and because they detract from addressing [[the root cause of depression]], which is to be found, he argues, in the form of unaddressed fears - a product of mind and consciousness, rather than a biological imbalance; and a problem that he argues is more effectively treated by psychological or social interventions than by drug treatment.[136][137][138]\n\nMeanwhile Joanna Moncrieff, an academic psychiatrist, argues more pragmatically against the effectiveness of anti-depressants in her book 'The Myth of the Chemical Cure.'[139] In his book, 'The Emperor's New Drugs,' psychologist Irving Kirsch argues that the small benefit of antidepressants over placebo might itself be an "enhanced" placebo effect, brought about because patients in clinical trials are able to figure out whether they have been given the drug or the placebo on the basis of side-effects.[140]\n\nRobert Whitaker, an award-winning journalist, argues in his books, including 'Mad in America,' and 'Anatomy of an Epidemic: Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness in America,' which have been highly critical of the profession of psychiatry, that large quantities of evidence about the harm caused by psychotropic drugs including anti-depressants is overlooked and evidence regarding antidepressant efficacy is overstated.[141][142] These voices critical of the use of anti-depressants are in a minority among psychiatric professionals who generally advocate use of medications according to the evidence base evolved from numerous large drug trials.

Initially the population grew rapidly, doubling every 55 days. The population reached 62[[0]] by day 3[[1]]5, after which the population growth dropped markedly. The last surviving birth was on day 600. This period between day 3[[1]]5 and day 6[[0]][[0]] saw a breakdown in social structure and in normal social behavior. Among the aberrations in behavior were the following: expulsion of young before weaning was complete, wounding of young, inability of dominant males to maintain the defense of their territory and females, aggressive behavior of females, passivity of non-dominant males with increased attacks on each other which were not defended against. After day 6[[0]][[0]] the social breakdown continued and the population declined toward extinction. During this period females ceased to reproduce. Their male counterparts withdrew completely, never engaging in courtship or fighting. They ate, drank, slept, and groomed themselves – all solitary pursuits. Sleek, healthy coats and an absence of scars characterized these males. They were dubbed “the beautiful ones”.\n\nThe conclusions drawn from this experiment were that when all available space is taken and all social roles filled, competition and the stresses experienced by the individuals will result in a total breakdown in complex social behaviors, ultimately resulting in the demise of the population.

Lasagna Recipe\nCook time: [[1]] hour, 3[[0]] minutes\nAdd to shopping list\nINGREDIENTS\n[[1]] lb lean ground beef\n[[1]]/2 medium sweet white onion, diced\n[[1]]/2 large bell pepper (green, red, or yellow), seeds and veins removed, diced\n[[1]]/2 lb dry lasagna noodles (requires 9 lasagna noodles - unbroken)\n[[1]]/4 cup sugar\n[[1]] 28 oz can tomato sauce\n[[1]]/2 28 oz can ([[1]]6 oz) stewed tomatoes\n[[1]]/2 6 oz can (3 oz) tomato paste\n[[1]] lb Ricotta cheese\n[[1]] [[1]]/2 lb Mozzarella cheese (large flat square slices)\n3/4 lb freshly grated parmesan cheese\nGarlic Powder\nOregano\nItalian Spice\nSalt\nGarlic Salt\nParsley diced (fresh flat leaf preferred)\n[[1]] Garlic Cloves, minced\nWhite wine vinegar\n\nCooking Utensils\n\nLarge skillet (for browning beef, onions, green pepper)\n6 Qt pot (for noodles)\n3 Qt pot (simmer sauce)\n[[1]]3" x 9" x 2" lasagna pan (preferably a stainless lasagna pan. Do Not Use Aluminum Pans - the aluminum will react with the acidic tomato sauce, leaching the aluminum and ruining the taste of your lasagna sauce.)\nLarge colander (drain/blot beef, drain noodles)\nLarge baking pan (to wash and cool noodles)\nLarge slotted cooking spoon\nLarge cooking spoon\nParing knife\nMETHOD\n[[1]] Brown lean ground beef in skillet until lightly browned and cooked through. Put a few layers of paper towels in large bowl. With slotted spoon, remove browned beef from skillet draining off excess beef fat and put on top of blotting towels. After all the browned beef has been removed from the skillet, drain off and dispose of excess beef fat. Wipe skillet clean with paper towel. (If your ground beef is sufficiently lean, there won't be any excess fat to drain.)\n\nAdd diced green pepper and onion to skillet. Brown for a few minutes on medium high heat. Add the garlic and cook for 3[[0]] seconds more. Add browned beef back to the skillet, lower the heat to low and continue to cook for 5 more minutes stirring frequently.\n\n2 Transfer browned beef, green pepper and onions to 3 Qt. pot. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste. Open stewed tomatoes and dice, then add to 3 Qt. pot. Add oregano, parsley, Italian Spice Mix to taste, probably 2 teaspoons of each. Add a pinch of garlic powder and a pinch of garlic salt, to taste. Add a dash of white wine vinegar. Add sugar a tablespoon at a time, until desired level of sweetness, no more than [[1]]/4 cup of sugar. Note that it is hard to follow a pure recipe when it comes to pasta sauce. One Italian spice mix is not like the other, nor is one can of tomato sauce not like the other. So you really do need to taste the sauce as you are adding the spices, sugar and vinegar.\n\nStir and allow sauce to simmer [[1]]5-45 minutes to thicken (do not scorch bottom, stir frequently). Remove from heat.\n\n3 Cook lasagna noodles in 6 Qt. Pot per cooking directions (al dente). (Note noodles may be cooked in advance.) Stir often to prevent from sticking and be sure that water remains at a boil during the entire cooking to prevent noodles from sticking. I add Tbsp of salt to the water so the noodles are more flavorful. Drain in colander and place in a cool water filled pan to keep from drying out and sticking together.\n\n4 In dry lasagna pan, ladle one cup of sauce and spread along the bottom of the pan. Apply a layer noodles 3 length wise (edges overlapping). Ladle in sauce sparingly into center trough of 3 noodles. Apply a layer of mozzarella cheese slices on top of lasagna sauce. Place ricotta cheese dollops every 2 inches in center of noodles on top of mozzarella cheese slices, sprinkle grated parmesan cheese in thin even layer on top of ricotta cheese. Apply second layer of noodles, topping again with sauce and cheese. Finish with another layer of noodles. If you have extra sauce and cheese you can spread that over the top. Tent lasagna pan with aluminum foil (not touching noodles or sauce). Bake at 375°F for 45 minutes. Allow to cool before serving.\n\nNote - Flavor improves for second service and may be reheated in convention or microwave. Leave aluminum tent on for storage (Do not allow aluminum to touch the sauce.)\n\nYield: Serves 8.
This really was a weird little "game", wasn't it? The only continuity problems is the whole "killing Mika" scene (at least that's what I think it was) and wired Lain killing herself. If we go by what the anime established, wired Lain was a strong, independent woman in contrast to her shy, quiet real life self. Now it makes sense why Lain wants to escape, BUT, wired Lain would never be able to go through with [[killing herself]] since she was strong and secure of herself. I need help understanding...\n\nhey designed the game and the show as two separate entities...they're not meant to exist in the same narrative universe. It's called "serial experiments" because the producers are constantly (serially) experimenting with the character of Lain and the story. There are many Lains. Many stories. Try thinking of it as not one whole story, but as separate, [[unrelated stories]]. The anime's rules/characters/stories do not apply to the Lain game.
it was all true. the collums. that beast of a computer. your enslaved figure. the man in the labcoat. even now you can hear him of the periphery of your senses giving his pitch to the people in uncomfortable chairs.\n\nyou see this is the crude version. a prototype. but it demonstrates the principal. \n\nreduce life to a series of jarring and discongruent interludes. its the ultimate psychological warfare tool. your reality becomes optional. you have no tools to judge fact from fiction. so you will gravitate to whats most attractive. then all that needs to be done is to make the path you want everyone to follow the most attractive and they're yours, mind, body and soul...\n\nas you fade out of consiousness the words bubble in your brain, but they seem wrong. you don't know if they are lies cooked up after the fact or if the goals shifted during development but you can't look back at what you just went through as something reasoned out. the truth is firm in your mind. this was something you were subjected to just to see if there was any effect.
i'd just like to say that choose your own adventure brand gamebooks suck (along with pick-a-path).\n\nif you want to see what can be done with the medium there were several worthy experiments in the fighting fantasy series.\n\ncreature of havok (where you awaken tranmogrified into a beast with little control over your actions, some of which are randomly determinted, but as the adventure progresses you gain more and more agency)\n\nscorpion swamp (Unlike most books in the series, the design here is completely non-linear. You can wander through the swamp in whatever order you want, even revisiting old locations. This freedom of movement is made possible by the book's wonderful mapping system -- each area is explicitly numbered and its exits clearly defined, making it both fun and easy to create an unambiguous map of the swamp.)\n\nbeneath nightmare castle (Peter knows how to play with psychological fears of people. Everything, from fighting a gang of starving children to being advised to fight an innocent person disguised as a monster, gets the horror movie mood right. The WILLPOWER mechanic, a rip-off from the Call of Cthulhu role-playing game, also works quite well to add realism to the game - that is, to include lots of new ways for your character to die painfully.)\n\nthough the fighting fantasy books have a wonderful minimalism (their influence is clearly felt in demon's souls) if you want examples of the game books potential as a literary form i highly reccomend Ficciones by Argentine writer and poet Jorge Luis Borges, the first half of which contains several hypothetical musings on the [[format]] written before the [[format]] existed.\n\n

She may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or she may believe in order for all and favor a strong, organized government.\n \nLawful neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you are reliable and honorable without being a zealot.\n \nLawful neutral can be a dangerous alignment when it seeks to eliminate all freedom, choice, and diversity in society.\n \n--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nThose of this alignment view regulation as all-important, taking a middle ground betwixt evil and good. This is because the ultimate harmony of the world--and the whole universe--is considered by lawful neutral creatures to have its sole hope rest upon law and order. Evil or good are immaterial beside the determined purpose of bringing all to predictability and regulation. It is the view of this alignment that law and order give purpose and meaning to everything. Without regimentation and strict definition, there would be no purpose in the cosmos. Therefore, whether a law is good or evil is of no import as long as it brings order and meaning. (1)\n \nLawful neutral beings believe in a strong, well-ordered government, whether that government is a tyranny or benevolent democracy. The benefits of organization and regimentation outweigh any moral questions raised by their actions. Lawful neutral beings will uphold the law regardless of whether it is considered just or not. If the majority of the population disagrees with the practices of the government, then they must use legal means of getting those laws changed. Rebellion is a crime regardless of the purpose behind revolt. In their day-to-day affairs, lawful neutrals will adhere to the laws of the area they are in, and will also maintain their own sense of honor. (2)\n \nThey are respectful to both their leaders and their peers. Subordinates will be treated as is due their station within society. Written contracts and verbal agreements will be honored by these characters. They will not break their word or a contract unless there is a legal way to do so. Lawful neutral beings are concerned with the letter of the law, but rarely the spirit. These characters also respect the idea of station in life. They will act as they should, given their station.\n \nThe lawful neutral being normally sees law and order as of prime importance, with the well-being of the group put ahead of the individual on almost every occasion. Such persons see good and evil as immaterial and unimportant in the structuring of the universe into perfect order and harmony, in which lies society's only hope for survival. Whether a law is good or evil is of no import as long as it brings order and meaning. Thus, personal gratification of needs and desires is well and fine, as long as this doesn't interfere with the ultimate ordering of the cosmos; all other considerations are secondary. Life, to the lawful neutral being, has no meaning without order, and is thus expendable when faced with the choice between it and harmony. (3)\n \nA lawful neutral character will keep his word if he gives it and will never lie. He may attack an unarmed foe if he feels it necessary. He will never harm an innocent. He may use torture to extract information, but never for pleasure. He will never kill for pleasure, only in self-defense or in the defense of others. A lawful neutral character may use poison as long as poison use is not illegal. He will help those in need only to advance the social order. He prefers to work with others. He responds well to higher authority, is trustful of organizations, and will always follow the law. He will never betray a family member, comrade, or friend. Lawful neutral characters respect the concepts of self-discipline and honor. (4)\n \nHere are some possible adjectives describing lawful neutral characters: reliable, responsible, truthful, orderly, loyal, respectful of authority, regular, structured, rigid, neat, methodical, and precise.\n \nWell known lawful neutral characters from film or literature include: Judge Dredd (Comics), Sergeant Friday (Dragnet television show), Percy Weasley (Harry Potter), and Cornelius Fudge (Harry Potter).\n \nEquivalent alignment in other game systems: Road of Chivalry (Vampire), Law (Warhammer), Just and Honorable (Alternity).\n \n--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nThe Ten Lawful Neutral Commandments\n \nA list of Ten Commandments for a lawful neutral religion may look like this: \n\n1. You shall not lie. \n\n2. You shall not kill the innocent. \n\n3. You shall not murder. \n\n4. You shall help the needy if such action advances law and order. \n\n5. You shall honor legitimate authority. \n\n6. You shall follow the law. \n\n7. You shall not betray others. \n\n8. You shall not aid criminals. \n\n9. You shall honor all oaths. \n\n10. You shall promote unlimited order in society. \n\n--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nTen Lawful Neutral Sins\n \nLikewise, a lawful neutral religion may list the following as sins. This list is given in the order of least severe infraction to most severe.\n \n\n\n1. Failing to alert the authorities of a crime. \n\n2. Treating a peer with disrespect. \n\n3. Placing personal desire above adherence to the law. \n\n4. Breaking your word to your peer or ally. \n\n5. Failing to assist allies in need. \n\n6. Breaking a major law. \n\n7. Failing to assist your superior when in need. \n\n8. Treating a superior with disrespect. \n\n9. Breaking your word to your superior. \n\n10. Breaking a sacred oath or written contract. Aiding the forces of Chaos and Disorder.\n \n--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nThe Lawful Neutral Adventurer\n \nThe following two lists detail common actions undertaken during "adventuring" that are considered honorable and dishonorable for the lawful neutral alignment. An honorable action is one that is in keeping with the spirit of this alignment, while dishonorable actions tend to be those which bring shame to the character in the eyes of his or her alignment peers. Note that an action which is considered honorable by one alignment may be considered dishonorable by another alignment and vice versa.\n \nThe following actions are honorable for this alignment:\n \nAllowing a disarmed enemy to pick up his weapon \n\nAllowing the enemy to attack first \n\nAllowing the enemy to remove their dead/wounded from the field \n\nDefeating a superior opponent \n\nRefusing medical treatment for the good of the party \n\nReporting illegal actions to the authorities \n\nTaking prisoners \n\nThe following actions are dishonorable for this alignment:\n \nAccused of crime (innocent or not) \n\nBeing taken prisoner \n\nConvicted of a crime \n\nDefeated by an inferior opponent \n\nDirty fighting \n\nFleeing a battle that's obviously going poorly \n\nFleeing a fight with a superior opponent \n\nFleeing a fight with an equal opponent \n\nKilling a host who has provided you food or shelter \n\nRash or improper social behavior \n\nRefusing a fair contest/challenge \n\nSaving the life of another at great risk to own self \n\nSurrendering \n\nTaking an arrow or hit for someone else \n\nTreason \n\nWalking away from a challenge \n\n--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nLawful Neutral and Society\n \nA lawful neutral being... \n\n\nRespects the authority figures in his family and obeys their mandates. \n\nValues lifelong commitment to a romantic partner. \n\nObeys all personal contracts. \n\nRespects the laws and authority figures of the community and nation. \n\nConsiders public service in a leadership role an honor. \n\nSupports the legal procedures of the nation, without regard to their own discomfort.\n \nSeeks secure employment, believing hard work will pay off in the end. \n\nWill not aid family members in need if personal discomfort is required. \n\nWill not betray a family member. \n\nHas few close friends and would never betray those he has. \n\nIs generally well liked by his community, but normally will not seek to improve the community.\n \nWill support his nation when profitable to do so, but will not act against his nation if profitable.\n \nBelieves people deserve the treatment they are willing to endure. \n\nIs not concerned with those less fortunate. \n\nWill not harm others for profit. \n\nA community with a lawful neutral government has a codified set of laws that are followed to the letter. Those in power usually insist that visitors (as well as residents) obey all local rules and regulations. In a lawful neutral society, The people are not only law-abiding, they are passionate creators of arcane bureaucracies. The tendency to organize and regulate everything easily gets out of control. In large empires there are ministries, councils, commissions, departments, offices, and cabinets for everything. If the region attracts a lot of adventurers, there are special ministries, with their own special taxes and licenses, to deal with the problem. The people are not tremendously concerned with the effectiveness of the government, so long as it functions.\n \n--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nLawful Neutral and Other Alignments\n \nLawful Neutral vs. Lawful Good\n \nConflict between lawful neutral and lawful good characters will center around the nature of laws. Lawful good characters want laws to protect the weak and punish the wicked, while lawful neutral characters are only interested in maintaining or expanding laws to cover every foreseeable problem within society without compassion or moral judgment. Lawful neutral characters will apply laws in a rigid manner, not worrying about whether the spirit of the law is upheld. It is the letter that is important to them. The language of the social compact and the wording of laws are all they are interested in, since that is all that is apparent from written documents. A lawful good character will be just as offended by a lawful neutral character's preference of letter over spirit as they are contemptuous of the neutral good character's insistence that the spirit is more important. The lawful good character will question the utility of laws that do not take into account all circumstances to provide a just and equitable settlement that coincides with their moral beliefs. The lawful neutral character does not consider morality when applying laws, only the effectiveness of the law to keep society stable.\n \nLawful Neutral vs. Lawful Evil\n \nLawful evil and lawful neutral characters will have conflicts over the nature of laws. Lawful evil characters will support laws that further their own cause, normally meaning the gaining of wealth and power. They will want laws which ensure that their regime gets the upper hand in society. Any laws that oppress the weak will not concern them, unless they receive no benefits from this oppression. A lawful neutral character will resent a lawful evil character's attempt to control laws to benefit their own group. Lawful neutral characters want all laws to apply equally to everyone, for good or ill. They will also have contempt for the way that lawful evil characters use laws to injure or harass their enemies. To lawful neutral characters, laws exist to provide order and stability for society. To lawful evil characters, laws exist to elevate the strong and cunning to positions of power over others.\n \nLawful Neutral vs. True Neutral\n \nLawful neutral and true neutral characters are similar in their morality. Both of these types will tend to return the treatment they receive from others. They differ in their outlook concerning legitimate authority and the structure of society. True neutral characters believe that laws should be followed as long as the law benefits themselves. They will also follow laws out of fear of punishment. If they can break a law which does not support their self-interest, and there is a good chance that they will not be caught breaking the law, true neutral characters may break laws. However, true neutral characters prefer to follow the law, because usually it is in their best interest to follow laws. Lawful neutral characters follow laws not only for their own self-interest, but also because they believe that one should always follow the law, even laws that run counter to self-interest. The lawful neutral character takes issue with the true neutral because the true neutral character will readily admit that he mostly benefits from the law, but he will not go out of his way to support the law. True neutral characters feel that lawful neutral characters are too obsessed with established laws and customs to realize that they may be better able to support their own interests by advancing personal freedom as well as law and order.\n \nLawful Neutral, Lawful Good, and Lawful Evil\n \nWhen operating as leaders within society, this is how characters of these three alignments may behave. The lawful neutral character will advance the aims of society and apply the law impartially to all citizens. He will follow laws and fight to ensure that all citizens follow laws. He will use legitimate means to change to social order if the state would benefit more from the change. He will promote fairness, using the law to reward those who act in accordance with the social order and punish those who act to the detriment of the state. He will tolerate corruption as long as the strength of the state is not jeopardized. The lawful neutral character will enjoy his position and its perks, but will not abuse his authority. The lawful good character will view his position as an opportunity to selflessly serve his fellow citizens. He will work to increase weal throughout society through the apparatus of the state. He will tirelessly fight corruption and work to eliminate social ills such as poverty, uneven wealth distribution, abuse by the state, and other problems. The lawful evil character will use his position of power over others to ruthlessly pursue his own agenda using the apparatus of the state. He will follow laws and encourage all citizens to follow laws by severely punishing criminals. He will increase his own wealth and power at the expense of the population as long as he can use legal means. The lawful evil character views his position as proof of his superiority over the common rabble.\n \nHow Lawful Neutral Views the Other Alignments\n\n The chart below shows how Lawful Neutral views itself and the other eight alignments.\n \n\n\n\n\nLawful Good\n\nHonorable but Idealistic\n\nNeutral Good\n\nUnreliable and Idealistic\n\nChaotic Good\n\nDishonorable and Idealistic\n\n \n\nLawful Neutral\n\nHonorable and Realistic\n\nTrue\nNeutral\n\nRealistic but Unreliable\n\nChaotic Neutral\n\nRealistic but Dishonorable\n\n \n\nLawful Evil\n\nHonorable but Egoistic\n\nNeutral Evil\n\nUnreliable and Egoistic\n\nChaotic Evil\n\nDishonorable and Egoistic\n\n \n\nLawfuls tend to view actions on a scale ranging from honorable to dishonorable. They hold themselves honorable while chaotics are seen as dishonorable in their eyes. Lawfuls view ethical neutrals as unreliable as they are concerned with doing the right thing some of the time whereas other times they seem to disregard society's expectations.\n \nCharacters who are morally neutral tend to see themselves as realistic. So-called "good" is actually an idealistic and naive philosophy in their eyes. Moral neutrals also eschew what they see as the radical egoism of darker, "evil" philosophies.\n \n--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nThe Philosophy of Lawful Neutral\n \nLawful neutral is the philosophy that law and order are desirable ends in and of themselves. It is a philosophy of pure equitistic collectivism. This philosophy holds that the best way for all beings to pursue a rational self-interest is within the framework of a strong social order. By putting the needs of the state or social order ahead of individual desires, each being can advance the self-interest of the collective as a whole. Lawful neutral can also be associated with ethical equitism and natural law philosophies. As the philosophical "average" of altruism and egoism, equitism holds that harm to others should be minimized when advancing the self and that harm to the self should be minimized when advancing others.\n \nLawful neutral philosophers generally maintain that there is metaphysical order in the multiverse and thus may support doctrines of hard determinism, predeterminism, fatalism, predestination, and/or necessitarianism. They may believe in fate or destiny. They tend to be moral objectivists, holding that values exist in the external world independently of and external to our comprehension of them; that they can be found and known; and that they must be used as principles for human judgments and conduct.\n \nThe ideal government for this alignment is an authoritarian state with codified laws supporting a social order. Whether the social order supports altruistic actions or egoistic actions is of no concern to the followers of this alignment. Lawful neutral beings want the power of the state to be used to maintain the social order. Any form of justice that maintains the social order is desirable.\n \n--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\n\n(1) Gygax, Gary. perhaps our fascination with the "ritual-game-story thing" is that it does, after all, provide us with some sense of order and structure in a world increasingly shaped by fluidity and individual decision.\n\nrituals, games and stories all have "rules" that shape interaction. in rituals, these rules consist largely of litergical and processional requirements that urge paticular behaviours over others. in games, the "rules" shape the experiance itself, and can be read in the procedural make-up of the programming, or in the rules accepted by the players before the game begins. in stories, rules are intergrated into the larger <html><a href="http://nzicd.com/texts/Book%20of%20the%20Tomb%20(Nick%20Farrell)-1.pdf"></a>hermneumeneutical</html> principles of interpreting community and into the way viewers and readers choose to engage with a recieved story, both visual and textual.\n\nsuch experiances are both intellectually engaging and metaphysically comforting in thier assumption of a degree of order combined with an [[0]]bligation to interact with them.
"Miss Haraway, how exactly would a robot kill itself?"\n\n"By intentionally malfunctioning, these gynoids are capable of self-authorizing attacks against humans. This liberates them from Moral Code [[#3]]."\n\n"Which stipulates, 'Maintain existence without injuring humans.' Isn't 'self-destruction' more accurate?"\n\n"If you assume differences between humans and machines are obvious."\n\n"Are such 'suicides' confined to a particular model?"\n\n"Not necessarily. In recent years we've seen a surge of robot related problems, especially among the 'pets'."\n\n"The cause?"\n\n"E-brain contamination from microbes and viruses, human production errors, functional defects from wear-and-tear. Take your pick, but ..."\n\n"But?"\n\n"I say it's because humans discard their robots once they're redundant. When owners trade up to newer models, some of those abandoned become vagrants, and degenerate. Perhaps it's a protest against their own obsolescence."\n\n"Absurd."\n\n"Humans are different from robots. That's an article of faith, like black isn't white. It's no more helpful than the basic fact that humans aren't machines.\n\n"Unlike industrial robots, the androids and gynoids designed as 'pets,' weren't designed along utilitarian or practical models. Instead, we model them on a human image, an idealized one at that. Why are humans so obsessed with recreating themselves?\n\n"Do you have children?"\n\nTogusa: "A daughter."\n\n"Children have always been excluded from the customary standards of human behavior, if you define humans as beings who possess a conventional identify and act out of free will. Then what are children who endure in the chaos preceding maturity? They differ profoundly from 'humans,' but they obviously have human form. The dolls that little girls mother, are not surrogates for real babies. Little girls aren't so much imitating child rearing, as they are experiencing something deeply akin to child rearing."\n\n"What on earth are you talking about?"\n\n"Raising children is the simplest way to achieve the ancient dream of artificial life. At least, that's my hypothesis."\n\n"Children aren't dolls!"\n\nBatou: "Descartes didn't differentitate man from machine, animate from inanimate. He lost his beloved five-year-old daughter and then named a doll after her, Francine. He doted on her. At least that's what [[they]] say."

Borderline personality disorder is a condition in which people have long-term patterns of unstable or turbulent emotions, such as feelings about themselves and others.\n\nThese inner experiences often cause them to take impulsive actions and have chaotic relationships.\n\nCauses, incidence, and risk factors\n\nThe causes of borderline personality disorder (BPD) are unknown. Genetic, family, and social factors are thought to play roles.\n\nRisk factors for BPD include:\n\nAbandonment in childhood or adolescence\n\nDisrupted family life\n\nPoor communication in the family\n\nSexual abuse\n\nThis personality disorder tends to occur more often in women and among hospitalized psychiatric patients.\n\nSymptoms\n\n[[People with BPD are often uncertain about their identity. As a result, their interests and values may change rapidly.]]\n\nPeople with BPD also tend to see things in terms of extremes, such as either all good or all bad. Their views of other people may change quickly. A person who is looked up to one day may be looked down on the next day. These suddenly shifting feelings often lead to intense and unstable relationships.\n\nOther symptoms of BPD include:\n\nFear of being abandoned\n\nFeelings of emptiness and boredom\n\nFrequent displays of inappropriate anger\n\nImpulsiveness with money, substance abuse, sexual relationships, binge eating, or shoplifting\n\nIntolerance of being alone\n\nRepeated crises and acts of self-injury, such as wrist cutting or overdosing\n\nSigns and tests\n\nLike other personality disorders, BPD is diagnosed based on a psychological evaluation and the history and severity of the symptoms.\n\nTreatment\n\nMany types of individual talk therapy, such as dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), can successfully treat BPD. In addition, group therapy can help change self-destructive behaviors.\n\nIn some cases, medications can help level mood swings and treat depression or other disorders that may occur with this condition.\n\nExpectations (prognosis)\n\nThe outlook depends on how severe the condition is and whether the person is willing to accept help. With long-term talk therapy, the person will often gradually improve.\n\nComplications\n\nDepression\n\n[[Drug abuse]]\n\nProblems with work, family, and social relationships\n\nSuicide attempts and actual suicide\n\nCalling your health care provider\n\nCall your health care provider if you or your child has symptoms of borderline personality disorder.
